Martin's Cove

The middle of August we were able to take an overnight trip out to Wyoming to visit Martin's Cove, an LDS visitors center for the Pioneers. James Aunt and Uncle-Jean and John- are currently serving a mission there as the centers Directors. We had a great time hearing pioneer stories, and seeing all kinds of relics from the trek. We even pulled a hand cart...about 10 feet. It's out in the middle of NOWHERE-so it is very quiet and peaceful. During the summer thousands of groups  go on mini treks to get a taste of how the pioneers did it. In the off season the full time missionaries who live there year round, spend their time maintaining the property, and helping with humanitarian aid projects.  We would highly recommend anyone putting this site on their ''must see" lists. Here are a few pictures of our time there.

THE cove

There were Jack Rabbits everywhere-These two were fighting like Mexican jumping beans!

If you hit this rock by independence day-you would be able to make it to the west coast before the cold came. The Martin hadcart company hit it in October.

It was SO wonderful being there! It was great to hear a more detailed discription of what the saints went through to make it to Salt lake. I cannot imagine perservering the way they did!
The next day J&J took us out to another history sight called the 6th crossing where the Willie handcart company was rescued. Jean and Whitney Went out rock hounding for Jade while James and John talked shop.
We're glad to have experienced it, and hope to go back soon!
