Saturday at the beach

Saturday-Miguel and Humberto invited us to the beach! They said they normally go on sunny days, as often as possible. It has some very cool culture there. Reed boat fishing. (it's becoming very hard for both of us to think in English-sorry if my sentences are confusing!!!) the town is full of hippy transients. All sorts of artists selling on the street and living in hostels. Lots of Gringos. We toured an oooolllld church and it's cemetery, walked out onto the pier, watched people fishing, browsed the artisan markets(A.K.A.-the souvenir shops) and tried lots of gooood street food. We also visited the temple site and Miguel gave us a bit of a history lesson about chan-chan. It was a great day, and we loved the company!

The Pier-You have to pay 50 centamos to walk on it- about 18cents.
Watching a little boy fish. On the pier they sell fishing paddles? They're little blocks of wood with fishing line wrapped around with a hook on the end. They use little clams as bait. People were using them all up and down the pier, and it seemed that some were catching fish.

Miguel and Humberto educating James

Turrones- They look like cake, but they are a flaky pastry layered with honey. They were CRAZY good. I mean, like, CRAAAAZYYY good. I hope they are as good the next time we have them.

Papas Rellenas-Basically mashed potatoes stuffed with meat and veggies, REALLY good also.

Picarones- A fry bread scone drizzled with fig cane syrup.....pretty greasy....and DELISH!

This is  a reed boat REALLY being used. Some of the locals let you rent them for kayaks or they will put you on the back and take you for a ride. They are traditionally used as fishing boats.

City of Huanchaco-Notice the big church on the hill and the reed boats on the shore.

  1. I would have to double my daily exercise time if I lived there! The honey pastry looks yummy though.
